1. The results confirm it--the single most important factor contributing to the number and intensity of the problems occurring in a stepfamily is the strength of the couple's relationship. The better the couple's relationship, the fewer the problems the family experiences. 

2. If you do nothing else before starting a stepfamily, spend as much time as possible discussing how you and your partner intend to manage the kids.

3. Have you been thinking you'll never find another mate because you and your kids are a "package deal"? Forget it. The vast majority of individuals completing the questionnaire said they were indifferent to, or pleased by the fact that their new partner already had children.
