The Stepfamily Problem List

© Dr. Nodrick 2002

What is it?

The Stepfamily Problem List is a rating scale that was designed for use with couples taking our Building Stepfamilies That Work course. It was developed with several purposes in mind:

1) to assess the level of difficulty each family was experiencing at the start of the course,

2) to identify those areas that should be given greater focus with each particular class taking the course, and

3) to evaluate the family's progress (by way of a "retest") at the end of the course.

How does your family compare?

Your results on the Stepfamily Problem List will show you how your family is doing at this point in time in comparison to the hundreds of other stepfamilies who came to the Foundation looking for help.

1) Your Total Score reveals how the overall scope and intensity of the problems your family is experiencing compare with other stepfamilies seeking help.

2) Your Subscale Scores show how your family compares with other stepfamilies across 48 specific problem areas. Problem areas rated as "similar" or "less" in intensity are quite likely to clear up on their own, with just the passage of time. However, those rated as "more intense" are likely to require some focused attention.

To see how your ratings compare to other stepfamilies, select the correct version of the Stepfamily Problem List based upon your gender.
